The son of assassinated Punjab governor Salman Taseer, Shehrbano Taseer, wrote an amazing piece in the New York Sunday Times yesterday. I did not know much about the situation but it was good to learn a little more and to consider, how do we guard against the guards? In America, our politicians are hailed as the defenders of democracy, by perennially re-enacting the rites of representative republican governance. How do citizens know if these guardians of the framework of our society are really working in the best interest of our communities?
At least we don’t have throngs of people celebrating the death of our representatives, as was the case in Islamabad, Pakistan last week.
May the forces of peaceful co-existence, tolerance and generosity prevail over rigid dogma, vindictiveness and brutality.
